NEWS Test of UM Emergency Alert software scheduled for Jan. 31

A campus-wide test of the new UM Emergency Alert software has been re-scheduled for Friday (Jan. 31). If actual emergencies are occurring at the scheduled time, the test will be postponed to the following week. The campus test also will include telephones and text messages devices registered by employees of the U-M Health System.

The UM Emergency Alert software that assists in sending text, voice and email messages during campus emergencies will change in February to a new vendor, including the Health System. The campus-wide test originally was scheduled for last Friday (Jan. 24), but was postponed.

Message delivery times with the new software are expected to be shorter, and future service enhancements are anticipated, said Andy Burchfield, U-M's director of emergency management.
