CRIME ALERT: University of Michigan DPS

Date of Incident:	June 23, 2008 about 1:30-1:40pm
Location:	Central Campus near southeast corner of Diag north of West Hall arch
Offense:	Assault with a dangerous weapon
Summary:	(updated on Jun 23 2008 18:00) As two teenage girls were walking on the Diag, they observed a man brandish a black pistol at another man. Then the man walked toward the girls, brandished the gun at them and verbally threatened them before putting the gun in his waistband as he walked away.
Suspects:	1: White male, 18-25 years old, 5'7" tall with broad shoulders and dirty, blonde, short hair. He was wearing a black and white baseball cap; a black, zippered sweatshirt; a white t-shirt with green and blue writing on the front; and black sweatpants.

If you see a suspect, do not approach--call police.
Always keep your doors locked, even while at home.
Look assertive and be aware of your surroundings.
Be aware that your risk increases in secluded and isolated areas.
Walk with a trusted friend or co-worker when possible.
Trust your intuition. If a particular situation makes you feeluncomfortable or unsafe, choose an alternative.
Have your keys in hand before you reach your vehicle or residence.
If you feel threatened on campus, look for a blue light emergencyphone or call 9-1-1 from any phone (no coins need for 9-1-1 calls).
